Ladies and Gentlemen - I give you...

PLASTIC-FREE PASTA!!

I am so excited I can hardly sit still.  Barilla pasta (blue cardboard box) does all sorts of pastas, completely plastic-free.  And with spaghetti at £1.39 it's not completely unaffordable.

I found it at Peckhams in Newington - along with affordable cheddar cheese (£1.05 per 100g), wrapped in paper.  Yes!

Now all I need to find are dried fruit and nuts with no plastic.  Can anyone help out there?

  1. Unfortunately, Julian Graves in the Princes Street Mall just closed. They had dried fruit, nuts and seeds in bulk. Neither Earthy or Real Foods carries bulk quantities of these items (we checked yesterday). We might be able to purchase some online and request only paper packaging.

  2. Carrie, I just contacted an online whole foods distributor regarding non-plastic packaging of their bulk nuts, seeds and fruits. Will let everyone know when I have heard from them.

  3. Just heard back from the whole foods online distributor. While they make every effort to reduce plastic in their packaging, it does include some plastic. Oh well.

  4. ah shame - thanks for checking Laurie! By the way - I checked the veg shops in parchment for salad leaves and arugula... and no joy. there are some lettuces you can buy with no paper - but no leaves (I'm sure they do do these at some times of year) - and no rocket. sorry! have you looked in earthy? they are the only one's i can think of who might have rocket naked. either that or befriend someone with an allotment?!

  6. No info on dried fruit and nuts, but you can also get the Barilla pasta at Valvona and Crolla on Elm Row if you are looking for it on the North Side....

  7. Earthy is as plastic as Tesco. Almost everything they sell comes wrapped, bottled or otherwise covered in plastic. So, no, definitely no arugula.

  8. really Brenna? I checked Valvona and Criolla and they didn't have the pasta. Also texted with PEte when he was looking round V and C - and we both came to the conclusion they don't have it. Peckhams definitely your best bet if trying to find it...
